How Aventis works

Aventis turns metocean data and your operability limits into a fully interactive probabilistic picture of how a marine campaign will play out against the weather. Here is the pipeline, end to end.

The simulation pipeline

  1. 1

Weather. Set up your weather files easily from your project hindcast, or download weather straight from ODSL's MetMap https://odsl.co/metmap for free.

  2. 2

Campagin. Break the operation into activities and durations. Set campaign options like location sequence and pre-requisite campaigns. Set vessel limits like port calls and shifts.

  3. 3

Limits. For each activity, set the limiting metocean criteria: significant wave height (Hs), wind speed, current speed, whether mercury is rising, whatever parameter you want. Include alpha factors inline with DNVGL-ST-N001.

  4. 4

Simulate. Aventis simulates the campaign's progress across every start date in in your hindcast. It only takes seconds.

  5. 5

Understand. Review campaign durations, causes of downtime, tricky activities or locations, compare against other strategies all in our wolrd-class dashboard.

Instead of assuming one weather scenario, a Monte Carlo simulation runs the same campaign many times against many possible weather sequences drawn from metocean data. The spread of outcomes shows not just the likely duration but the probability of delay, which is what de-risks the schedule.

P50 is the duration the campaign meets or beats half the time; P90 is the duration it meets or beats 90% of the time. Planning to P90 builds in weather contingency, while P50 reflects a central estimate. Aventis reports both for every activity and for the campaign as a whole.

Alpha factors from DNVGL-ST-N001 reduce the limiting operational criteria to account for forecast uncertainty over the planning horizon. Aventis applies operability and forecast-rating alpha factors per activity so weather windows reflect what a forecaster could actually confirm in advance, not perfect hindsight.

Aventis works with any metocean time series, significant wave height, wind speed, current speeds, etc. It works with client-provided datasets. Don't have data? Download it for free on odsl.co/metmap or speak to us to provide you with high quality calibrated data sets.
